KG Making Things and Market Day 2016

31st March 2016
Each classroom was transformed into a different environment chosen by the children which included Fantasy Land, Rhythm and Rhyme Land, Land of Dinosaurs, a Garden and a Pirate Ship.

In the unit of study on ‘My Community’ is a theme called ‘Making Things’ which is all about using the knowledge of our themes on the ‘Neighborhood’ and ‘Jobs’ to teach the children to use the objects and materials around them to create and make things. Each classroom was transformed into a different environment chosen by the children which included Fantasy Land, Rhythm and Rhyme Land, Land of Dinosaurs, a Garden and a Pirate Ship.

Through student led activities, and inquiry based projects, children were encouraged to ask questions to further their learning and participate in authentic hands-on learning opportunities.

For the culmination of the 3 week unit the Pre-4 and KG Parents were invited in to school to allow their children to reflect on all they had learned.  Pre-4 students shared their learning in their classrooms with their parents, and then got to enjoy their Market Day where, after working hard in their classrooms to make theme-related items to sell such as popcorn, monster mud pies, cupcake spides and cookie fish, they decorated their posters, ready for the big day. They had a great time getting to choose which items to buy.  KG2 students presented to their parents what they had been studying in Art, PE, Music and library classes before participating in activities with their parents in their classrooms, and exploring the Art and Science displays.

A wonderful day was had by all.
